Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
An important political figure commented the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
